How to see the weather for every stop of a multi-city trip
Three cities in ten days means three forecasts, each for different dates, each changing as the trip gets closer. Here’s how to plan around them without checking a weather app city by city every morning.
Know which number you’re looking at
For dates within about a week, a forecast is worth planning around. Further out, day-by-day forecasts lose most of their skill, and a precise-looking “72° and sunny” three weeks away is closer to a guess.
For those later dates, use climate averages instead: the typical high and low for that place on those dates, averaged over decades. They won’t tell you whether it rains on a given Tuesday, but they will tell you whether to pack a coat. In the US, these averages are published as 30-year climate normals.
Doing it by hand
- List each stop with its dates. Arrival and departure day for each city.
- For stops more than a week away, look up the averages for those dates and pack for the range.
- As each stop comes within a week, switch to its forecast. Check it in the stop’s local time, especially if the trip crosses time zones.
- Check alerts before each travel day. The days you move between cities are the ones weather can actually disrupt.
- Share it with whoever’s at home. They’ll want to know where you’ll be and what it’s doing there.
Doing it with Viltri
In Viltri you enter the trip once, with each stop, its dates, and the flight or drive legs between them, and it shows the weather for every stop on the days you’re there. Within about a week of a stop’s dates you see that day’s forecast; further out, Viltri shows the typical high and low for those dates from NASA’s 1991–2020 climate record, labelled as not a forecast, and switches to the forecast on its own as the dates get closer. Each stop is shown in its own local time.
A trip can be typed, spoken, or imported from a calendar event, a shared confirmation email or a screenshot of a booking. You can send family a share link that opens in any web browser, with no app or account needed. Your own trips are part of Viltri Premium; the free plan includes a demo trip.
